Many people think of painting as relaxation. They would not be wrong, as once immersed in a creation all white noise in the mind disappears. In many respects creating images is like meditating which, if practised properly, dispenses with unnecessary distractions.

Painting is difficult enough without being distracted by chores that need to be completed later in the day or that own worst enemy voice that tells what you’ve done isn’t good enough. The real task of generating original imagery is not letting yourself be discouraged by either of the above, not copying other people’s art or having preconceptions of what successful painting is, but learning how to make your tools come close to doing what it is you actually want from them.

This course is therefore about learning how to use tools to best effect and understanding. The objective is to collect a toolbox of tools that will equip you, the artist, to maximize your individual talent. As a course, it is suitable for both experienced painters and newbies alike. Please bring along your own sketch block of good quality paper, all other materials included.
