Director: Lee Tamahori
Cast: Rena Owen, Temuera Morrison, Mamaengaroa Kerr-Bell, Cliff Curtis
On its 25th Anniversary, Lee Tamahori presents (in person) his raw, uncompromising, moving working-class saga “Once Were Warriors”.
We are beyond proud to present Lee’s personal 35mm print (it’s mint - and never been through a projector) with Lee sticking around to answer questions afterwards.
If you were at our screening of The Edge you will already know what a treat it is to hear Lee talk.
Once Were Warriors offers social realism with a savage kick, depicting a culture whose ties to their own history have been destroyed.
Left floundering in an inhospitable urban world, they have lost touch with their tribal past to become part of a rootless global subculture.
It’s genuinely poignant with the idea of how a collective destiny has gone astray and holds a powerful sense of longing throughout.
