Come along to our Old Forest Walk! Get up close and personal with native forest that is over 1,000 years old and home to huge rata and rimu trees! You’ll get to check out our Mainland Island too, an area which has been set up to protect our special native animals and plants. Got keen eyesight? See if you can spot a rifleman, New Zealand's smallest bird or possibly catch a glimpse of our native bush falcon.
This walk is restricted to 15 people so get in quick to get to see this beautiful area with the guidance of our knowledgeable ranger. This walk requires moderate fitness and is approximately 10km in total. Please note that this walk is NOT suitable for children under the age of 14 years.
Please bring:
- Suitable walking shoes
- Change of socks and shoes. Will get wet due to river crossings
- Warm jacket
- Food and water
- Sunscreen and other sun protection
If you cannot make it on the day, please call/text the Ranger, Ricky Clarkson on 021 249 6473.
