"A conversation with Alison Whittaker: Blakwork"

Traverse feminism, class, social justice and the erasure of Aboriginal people with mesmerising performer and fiercely intelligent poet and legal scholar Alison Whittaker.

Alison’s second book Blakwork, a mix of memoir, reportage, fiction, satire and critique, has been described as defying both genre and gender categorisations and the restrictions imposed by colonialism, Sydney Review of Books.

Through her writing she interrogates feminism, class, social justice and the erasure of Aboriginal people. Blakwork was shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, Victorian Premier Literary Awards and Australian Book Industry Awards, and longlisted for the Australian Literary Society’s Gold Medal.

Join the poet, life writer and essayist Alison for a conversation about her latest award-winning book Blakwork, poetry, advocacy and Australia.

A conversation with Alison is in collaboration with the New Zealand Writers Festival and the University of Waikato and will be held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, starting at 6.15pm. Complimentary drinks and nibbles served from 5.30pm. Free parking is available on campus via Gate 2B, Knighton Road, Hamilton.

Registration is essential, please bring your eticket with you on the night.
