Shades Of Shakti: Nelson Workshop

An intimate demonstration of the exquisite, acoustically unique Sarangi, an ancient bowed string instrument from India. Performed by visiting master musician, Sangeet Mishra, who comes from a famous Varanasi family of master musicians.

Accompanied by Basant Madhur on tabla, and with the members of Shades of Shakti present, you will be able to listen, ask questions, and dip your mind into the infinite depths of Indian music.

Maestro, Sangeet Mishra, comes from a long line of sarangi masters from India’s holiest city, Varanasi. Considered a prodigy as a child, Sangeet has endeavoured in his career to revive ancient musical styles. An innovative musician, he has performed with leading artists in India and around the world, successfully employing a contemporary approach to the sarangi without compromising its traditional purity and essence.

Shades of Shakti is made of some of New Zealand's finest musicians: Justin Firefly Clarke (guitar), Basant Madhur (tabla), Tristan Carter (violin), Thomas Friggens (percussion and drums).
