National, Labour, Greens, ACT, TOP debate Doughnut Economics

This event will kick off by hearing from Kate Raworth, the Oxford academic who invented Doughnut Economics, live-streamed from the UK.

Then representatives of the major parties will have the chance to tell us how their social and environmental policies fit (or not) with the concept of Doughnut Economics and what they see as their vision for the future of New Zealand.

ACT's Felix Poole, Green's Chloe Swarbrick, Labour's Helen White, National's Dan Bidois, and TOP's Shai Navot have confirmed their attendance.

After this the candidates will take part in a lively panel discussion, followed by a Q and A in which you are invited to participate. Come and meet the candidates in person and see what the buzz of Doughnut Economics is all about.

If you haven’t heard of Doughnut Economics the idea is that the aim is for the planet to live within acceptable environmental boundaries while meeting essential social needs. The sweet spot is in the shape of a doughnut. If you stretch the planet’s resources too far, you fall off the outside edge. And if you fail to meet basic social needs (like food, water, health education, housing and justice) you fall into the hole in the middle.
