All aboard for Rail Live Day! Make tracks to MOTAT to see, hear, and smell the history of New Zealand’s rail.

Our three operational steam locomotives, F-180 Meg Merrilies, L507 and Y542, will be proudly steaming along the tracks, providing rides throughout the day.

As well as steam locomotive rides, at MOTAT2 there will be a range of rail related demonstrations to give visitors a behind the scenes look at rail heritage and conservation. Come and discover our Rail Workshop tours, hot riveting demonstrations, hand powered rail crane demonstrations and more!

Plus, be sure to visit MOTAT1 for Jigger rides and the Model Railway, favourites among visitors young and old alike.

Our passionate and knowledgeable team of volunteers and staff will be on hand to share the history of these incredible powerhouses of early rail. MOTAT Live is a great day out for the whole whānau!
