Science meets mātauranga
What we can do to adapt to climate change?
Dr Huhana Smith is Head of Massey University School of Art and leader of an interdisciplinary research project on how to adapt to climate change impacts focusing on Coastal Māori Communities in Horowhenua-Kāpiti.
She actively encourages the use of art and design’s visual systems to explore complex issues and make solutions more accessible for local communities.
In her research Dr Huhana Smith (Ngāti Tukorehe, Ngāti Raukawa ki Te Tonga) aims to combine knowledge from Māori researchers, architects, artists and scientists. Bringing together mātauranga - the body of traditional and contemporary knowledge about the world – both physical and spiritual – held by Māori with science in the Western tradition.
The Monica Brewster Evenings (MBE) in association with Govett Quilliam – The Lawyers bring an impressive array of national and international artists and cultural thinkers to New Plymouth. For a different kind of night out, join us for talks, presentations and performances in a casual and intimate atmosphere.
