As the sun begins to set and the summer sky turns pink, experience Middle-earth as you have never seen it before with a fully guided tour of the Shire at dusk. Journey through the twelve-acre site as your guide recounts fascinating details of how the movie set was created and see all 44 complete Hobbit Holes™, the thatched Millhouse, double arch stone bridge and of course the famous Green Dragon™ Inn.
After your tour you will arrive into the vibrant, bustling marketplace and be fully immersed in the enchanting atmosphere of Middle-earth. Visit the stalls and sample some traditional Hobbit fare, enjoy the roaming themed entertainers and join in on the themed interactive games with prizes to be won! Visit The Green Dragon™ Inn and indulge in a few of our exclusive Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ range of beverages, or try our selection of Middle-earth Wines available in the fully themed replica interiors.
Market stalls will be piled high and Hearty Hobbit-sized canapés will be on offer. Sample from grazing platters featuring cured meats, freshly baked breads, fresh produce, desserts, New Zealand cheeses and fruits, and as a special addition to this Mid-Summer Celebration, our chefs will fire up the Hobbit BBQ grill for a taste of kiwi Summer in the Shire.
For a quiet spot to enjoy a seated meal, visit the fully themed Party Marquee located directly behind The Green Dragon Inn where our buffet will be bursting with a selection of Hobbit and Chinese fusion dishes. The marquee exterior is beautifully created from yellow painted canvas and the interior is fully themed with colourful bunting and lanterns creating a festival-like atmosphere.
To add to this premium experience, you will have the opportunity to join in a guided evening lantern tour. This stunning journey under moonlight will travel through the village, breathtakingly lit up with Hobbit Hole chimney’s smoking and lanterns glowing against the darkness. Tours will depart regularly from outside the Green Dragon Inn throughout the evening.
