Merengue is taught as a minor component of the Beginners classes to familiarise dancers with dance rhythm and dance holds using a simple step. Social dance nights and parties always include some Merengue dancing. It is good for getting less experienced dancers out onto the floor, yet can still be enjoyed by all. Merengue originates from the Dominican Republic and has a 2/4 time signature, meaning the step is 1,2,1,2... The tempo of erengue is around 120-150 beats per minute.
Rueda de Casino (Rueda,Casino Rueda,Salsa Rueda) is a type of round dancing of Salsa. It was developed in Cuba. Pairs of dancers form a circle, with dance moves called out by one person,a caller. Many moves have hand signs to complement the calls; these are useful in noisy venues. Many moves involve the swapping of partners. The names of the moves are mostly in Spanish, some in English (or Spanglish).
