The rise of Matariki signals the start of the Māori New Year a time to celebrate, reflect on the past year, a time of peace, letting go of the old and embracing the new.

Join Te Kahui Aroha ki Waitaha a collective of local Māori kaiwhakaora (healers) who will gather to share their diverse practices and mātauranga (knowledge) of traditional Māori healing. Meet these experienced practitioners, experience the ancient bodywork practice of romiromi or mirimiri, and learn about rongoā Māori (plant medicine).

Entry is free, products and services will be available for purchase.

‘He oranga ngākau, he pikinga waiora’ (Positive feelings within you enhances wellbeing).

This event is brought to you by Te Waioratanga. Te Waioratanga is a strand of the All Right? campaign. It symbolizes cultural practices, values, traditions, language, and identity, which are all important aspects to whanau/individual wellbeing. Mātāora started as a community project four years ago to raise awareness and access to Māori healing and Māori wellbeing practitioners in Ōtautahi Christchurch. It has evolved over this time and Te Waioratanga has continued to support it - thank you!

This event is part of The Arts Centre's Matariki 2020 programme.
