The creative force behind New Zealand’s first Hindi movie and first Hindi web series is staging the play Love Letters, in Hindi, as a special celebration of the Indian Independence Day!

A. R. Gurney’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated classic Love Letters is a powerful ode to India and life as it was in Bombay before it became Mumbai.

Starring Monica Nangia, Kapil N Asrani and Prachi Purandare Vaidya

If you grew up in India in the 1980s or 1990s, Love Letters will tug at your heart. Through the letters of two lovebirds, audiences will experience a rollercoaster of emotions which recount the fire, riots, famines and secedist movements India experienced in the latter decades of last century. Before the smartphone changed everything, romance was about words, not emojis; love was about rhymes, not just good times; and pictures were awesome because they weren’t perfect.
