Only one week to this concert with Toru Trio, a Wellington based chamber ensemble with Harp, Viola and Flute. Providing that Auckland goes back to Level 2 we are trying to secure this opportunity to celebrate music by keeping the numbers to a max of 90 audience members spaced in the hall according to the health and safety guidelines. Come and support the Arts in these uncertain times.
Featuring music by Debussy, Tabea Squires and Toru Takemitsu. It will be a great way to start again with something new and a beautiful and less common chamber music formation that we are sure would enchant our audiences.
Formed in 2015, TORU is a dynamic chamber music trio presenting beautiful music for this intriguing combination.
All three musicians are well known, experienced freelancers. Karen and Sophia hold Section Principal positions in Orchestra Wellington, work on a casual basis for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and teach. Ingrid moved from Wellington mid 2018 to take up the position of Principal Harp with the Auckland Philharmonia. United by their love of chamber music, TORU are excited about sharing the interesting, mainly contemporary, repertoire.
In 2018 TORU undertook a very successful Associate Societies tour for Chamber Music New Zealand, travelling from Invercargill to Warkworth, presenting nine concerts. They were warmly received:
“These three young women have a verve and character which made their performance a pleasure to watch as well as listen to.”
Whanganui River City Press May 2018
“.. a vivid and eloquent concert with a striking combination of instruments.”
Rotorua Daily Post May 2018
