Dr Rebecca Wellard completed a PhD studying Antarctic & Australian killer whales. As one of the most enigmatic and little-visited regions on Earth, it's fair to say that the Subantarctic Islands hold plenty of secrets waiting to be discovered, so tune in for her fascinating lecture, 'The Sub-Antarctic Killer Whale – One of the Ocean’s Greatest Mysteries'. Tune in for her fascinating lecture, on Thursday 11 June at 07:00 PM NZ on Ponant Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PonantAU/

Rebecca has extensive experience researching marine mammals, working across various disciplines, including bioacoustics, cognitive behaviour and applied conservation. Her PhD research focused on Antarctic and Australian Killer whales, specifically investigating their communication, social structure and feeding preferences.

Currently, Bec resides in Western Australia, where she works for the Centre for Marine Science and Technology at Curtin University and is the head of research for Project ORCA- an organisation that is dedicated to protecting the marine environment through scientific research focused on marine mammals, community engagement and environmental education. When Bec is not researching the orca off Australia and Antarctica, you will most likely find her exploring nature and wildlife in another remote part of the world - keen to tell you all about it! Rebecca is an avid science communicator and loves to share her fascination and enthusiasm for marine wildlife through lectures, presentations and film.
