Kaha - strength, courage, energy. Join us to celebrate kia kaha te mahi – the powerful work of artists Nicola Jackson and Emma Hercus in this free opening night event. Both artists will be exhibiting their work for sale.

Nicola is an artist and printmaker originally from the UK, and now based in Island Bay. Using a combination of screen printing, ink and collage, Nicola’s work is inspired by her intense love of colour, florals, marks and textures.

Nicola’s process builds depth, texture and tactility through layering techniques; a piece of her art may consist of 5 to 50 layers. Consequently, each of Nicola's pieces are truly one-offs and almost impossible to replicate.

Her work can be found in selected galleries in NZ and the QT hotel, Wellington. She has also just completed her 4th year showing at the NZ Art Show.

Emma is mostly a painter and a willow basket weaver. She recently won the People's Choice Award at TLC's Spring Forward student exhibition for her striking painting "Demise of the Huia". She is experimental and often uses found objects to paint on and use within her art.

Emma’s art draws from the flora, fauna and people of Aotearoa. The stories of the people and landscapes are seen throughout her work.

Emma weaves willow baskets and lightshades and grows most of the willow she uses locally. She has been weaving for three years.
