Joseph Michael: Amazon - Raised Up Sky - Artist Talk

Amazon - Raised Up Sky is an augmented reality artwork that explores the interconnectivity of humans and nature, a ground-breaking fusion of art and science placing the viewer in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest. Through conversations with indigenous leaders, scientists and artists, Michael explores our physical, biological, and cultural link to trees. Experience the augmented reality work in development after the presentation, and watch a short documentary following his process in this artist talk with Joseph Michael.
Joseph will also share imagery from his expedition to Antarctica, followed by the development of his installation Antarctica: while you were sleeping which showcased powerful visuals of an iceberg slowly crashing down the sides of the 500-foot tall United Nations building, bringing the remoteness of the Antarctic to the core of urban New York as part of the 2019 Climate Action Summit and UNGA.

About the Artist:
Joseph Michael’s large-scale installations bring remote areas of the world to the core of urban centres, thus challenging a human centred worldview, by collapsing the space and time relationship between humans and the natural world. His works are internationally recognised, most recently having exhibited Voices For The Future on the United Nations Headquarters in New York City during the 2019 UNGA and Climate Action Summit.
