All ages are invited to join this session in the beautiful Great Hall with Mana Fleming who has been learning and teaching Tai Chi for 20 years. Please book a ticket so we have a sense of how many to expect. places will also available on the day.

Hikitia te Hā is a series of simple te ao Māori breathing exercises that anyone can learn. Focusing on our breathing calms the body and mind and is a very helpful practice for feeling more present and mindful.

Hikitia te Hā drawing up the breath acknowledges the Atua (Māori gods). The first acknowledges Ranginui who holds the stars who hold a passage of time. Like a clock, a circle moving to and within Matariki. The next acknowledges Papatūānuku who waits patiently during Matariki for decisions, plans and the inevitable new growth. The third phase acknowledges the children of Ranginui and Papatūānuku: Tāne Mahuta, Tangaroa, Tāwhirimatea, Rūaumoko and Tūmatauenga. The final phase acknowledges and respects that which is around us, within us and has gone before us.

This workshop is part of The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora's 2020 Matariki programme.
