'Realising the potential of AI in a New Zealand context' by Professor Albert Bifet
In this Public Lecture, world-leading ArtificiaI Intelligence (AI) expert, Professor Albert Bifet will demystify the fundamentals of machine learning and AI and delve into their potential to have a positive impact on our environment and the way we all live and work.
Professor Bifet will set the scene by explaining where he sees the conversation currently centred globally in terms of this transformational technology and then talk about how New Zealand can fully leverage this technology to support innovation.
He will lift the lid on hot topics like Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT) and their potential to fundamentally shift the way we interact with our surroundings with the help of advanced analytics.
Professor Bifet is currently leading a $13M project working with data scientists across New Zealand, using AI to help monitor and restore our lakes, rivers, forests and estuaries. He is a core developer of the MOA machine learning software and has written more than 150 publications on machine learning methods and their applications.
He is particularly passionate about the opportunities AI has for industry and businesses in New Zealand and empowering others to harness the right tools in a safe and ethical way, tapping into free, open source tools along the way.
This 35-minute public lecture will be held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, starting at 5.45pm. Complimentary drinks and nibbles served from 5.15pm. Free parking is available on campus via Gate 2B, Knighton Road, Hamilton.
