Find yourself getting lost in the songs of Wellington-based troubadours The Dauphin of Mississippi and LOST BiRD, for an intimate, engaging and seated co-headlining show at Meow in Wellington. We've got limited tickets, keeping things nice and comfortable, so don't tarry.

Doors at 6pm. Show at 7ish.

Our plan is to make you laugh, ache, smolder, fall in love, recoil in horror, sing in public and miss everyone you've ever loved, and for these few moments we are together, to feel a part of something bigger than ourselves.

We hope you'll join us.

LOST BiRD:
Compared to Bright Eyes, or Richard Thompson if he were a tenor, Ali Whitton's songs of struggle, hope, rootlessness and giving way to abandon will charm you, unsettle you a bit , then make you laugh at your own shared humanity. All the while Oliver Vetter's fiddle work will stoke the fires of your chest, warm your head a bit, and bring out your inner animal. Since opening for Ed Sheeran in Auckland, both their worlds have expanded, making this a rare chance to experience their warmth and charm. If you've never seen this folk duo, now's your shot, and right as Ali's had a rush of new songs.

The Dauphin of Mississippi:
Raised in the wilds of southern Mississippi, and coming off a sell out show at Hawkes Bay's Sitting Room Sessions, audience members have compared his songs to John Prine for their humor, Gordon Lightfoot for their open-road ease, Leonard Cohen for their brooding intensity, Bonnie Raitt for sultry longing, and Guy Clark for their craftmanship. His first album, (2017's self-produced Prodigal Songs for the End of Days), a furious genre bending romp through an America collapsing under late stage capitalism, netted him WyCMA nods for Album, Songwriter, and Americana group of the year. 2019 's The Book of Vanities featured the likes of 14-time Grammy winner Dan Tyminski on fiddle and living Bluegrass meme Tony Wray on banjo and guitar.

He'll be accompanied by "New Zealand's Dave Rawlings", multi-instrumental virtuoso Dusty Burnell (Frank Burkett Band, T-Bone Trio) and the brilliant and crafty Itallian Dr. Giocomo Giorli (The Infamous Bourbon Boys, The Melling Station Boys), from the hills Tuscany by way of Hawaii. With backing vocals from madame Claire Ellen Lukens.

“One of those relaxed country voices that needs to be heard...a fine songwriter....melodic foot-tapping country music delight....several quality ballads...Buy this Album. 4.5/5 Stars” —Paul Riley, Country Music People Magazine (U.K.)

"After listening to the Book of Vanities for a month or so, I just love it. It's a top 5 American album of the year. Jason's voice reminds me of John Martyn , who I just love. So, check him out." Shady, The Americana Show on Radioactive 88.6 FM

"....Plays a mean guitar and sings songs and tells tales that’ll have y’all laughing, crying, and all points in between! ....Sure, he’s anything but a household name, such is the cruel twist of algorithms, but it’s not for lack of talent or application as his songs are hugely literate and intensely melodic. But for that one lucky roll of the dice, he’d be known far and wide." Rob Habers, Ambient Light NZ

“Dauphin, Jason Burge. Great, great songwriter. Quite an ability to draw in listeners with narratives in the songwriting. Beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous.” Grady Kirkpatrick, Wyoming Public Radio

"Like the love child of Ted Hawkins and Bonnie Raitt. Delivered by Townes Van Zandt passing through on a train." Brad Watson (novelist Ms. Jane, The Heaven of Mercury)

"(The songwriting) is enough to make you put your beer down and take in the moment." Mike Morris, Fridays in the Asher
