Create unique earrings using harakeke and learn basic weaving skills in this workshop with Lisa and Corabelle from Kahu Collective.

Harakeke is a natural resource that has a way of not only being woven into beautiful taonga but weaving people together.

Kahu Collective is a group of local weavers who all share a passion for raranga (weaving) and want to awaken the world to both its beauty and healing properties.

Corabelle Summerton is a New Zealand artist who specialises in weaving with harakeke. After discovering weaving five years ago, she was inspired to connect with her whakapapa and culture. Corabelle has a love of traditional Māori weaving but also loves to add a modern touch to create something truly unique.

Lisa Harding is a Māori artist based in North Canterbury. With whakapapa connections to Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Hako, Lisa utilises raranga and whatu techniques to create artworks immersed in tradition but with a contemporary twist. These pieces allow her to connect with her cultural identity and tell the stories of aspiration by using natural fibres.

This workshop is presented as part of The Arts Centre Sculpture Festival. Tickets to the Sculpture Festival exhibition are sold separately, please visit the website.
