This workshop is held at the Okains Bay Māori and Colonial Museum on Waitangi Day.

Please note that the workshop price does not include the $10 entry fee for adults to the museum (children $2, pre-schoolers are free). Please bring cash for this and please also note that this is the museum’s key fundraising day, so do come along and support them!

We are honoured to be taking part in Waitangi Day commemorations at Okains Bay on 6 February 2020. As part of this, we have been invited to present some workshops at the wonderful Okains Bay Māori and Colonial Museum.

In this workshop Simone Bensdorp of Wild Felt will teach you how to make a felt bowl using natural, undyed, New Zealand wool and traditional felting techniques.

Wool felt-making is the oldest known way to make fabric, simply by combining wool, soap and water. This handmade product requires no fancy machines or chemicals, it is a simple practice that anyone can learn and use.

You will design and make your own bowl and leave with the skills to continue felting at home.

Please bring one towel, all other materials will be provided. It is also a good idea to bring a spare bag for your towel and bowl as they may still be wet after the class.

Please note: This workshop is for adults only please, as it is not suitable for children.
