Emma Maguire

Tempest Theatre Co presents Declarations of Love (And Other Useless Things), a duo dissection of all the romance tropes you love best. Part sketch show, part impassioned raving, Emma Maguire (Power, Two Bros*) and Hamish Boyle (Summer Shakespeare) have created a tasting menu of pun-filled treats to appeal to the romantic in all of us.

Brought to life with vignettes, dancing, and consensual objectification, this feminist satire show isn’t here to hate on romances, just to dissect them, in a fun and definitely not scholarly way.

“Would sexbots join a union?”
and
“What would happen if moments from Fifty Shades of Grey actually happened in real life?”

(Spoiler alert: Nothing good)

As well as a series of stand-alone vignettes, including but not limited to:
“F**ked by Wellington’s Outrageous Housing Market’
“Polyamorous Guys on Tinder”
“Uncomfortable Moments with Strangers in Elevators”

Declarations of Love (And Other Useless Things) is rewriting romance for the modern era.
It might just make you reconsider that Mills and Boon novel you found on your aunt’s bookshelf.

(Not like that.)
