The New Zealand Antarctic Society is delighted to host Dr. Jenni Adams' presentation on Antarctic Astronomy.

The Antarctic Continent has properties which mean it is a unique environment to make astronomical observations. In this talk Jenni will describe some of the astronomical projects operating in Antarctica, introducing the scientific questions which they seek to answer, and the advantages which Antarctica offers for these projects. She will particularly talk about her involvement in a project called IceCube. IceCube is a neutrino telescope and probes the environments around the highest energy objects in the Universe.

Jenni Adams is an Associate Professor in the Physics and Astronomy department at the University of Canterbury. Her research interests are in astroparticle physics, the interface between astrophysics and particle physics where the goal is to learn about high energy astrophysics using our knowledge of particle physics and to learn about the fundamental constituents of matter using the Universe as our laboratory.

This may sound daunting, but Jenni has the wonderful ability to present complex topics in down-to-earth terms thus helping all of us better understand the wonders around us.
