This is the first instalment of a series of practical workshops to gain hands-on skills related to permaculture practices.
Judy Keats from Kelmarna Community City Gardens will be presenting an experiential workshop on Composting and Plant Propagation.

Judy will take us through different composting methods and home in on hot composting. We will be compiling a hot compost heap from accumulated materials and inoculating with beneficial anaerobic microbes to ensure the development of fungal networks and sequestration of carbon. By building a compost pile 1m² in size, temperatures rise to 65-70°C and destroy weed seeds and pathogens and provide us with humus rich compost in 3 months.

We will also learn how to grow plants from seed, root division and cuttings. Best timing for these practices will be covered, plant species suited to the season, and how to care for your transplants once in your garden. We will make our own seed raising mix and ‘potting on’ mix from collected resources.
