CJC presents 2 great bands led by up and coming musicians.

Joe Kaptein

Joe is currently completing his 3rd year studying jazz at the University of Auckland School of Music, studying piano with Kevin Field, and is playing alongside both students and lecturers. Performing original compositions drawing from the outer edges of forward-thinking 70s jazz, with elements of lounge, funk, and psychedelic rock thrown in, Joe is excited to present some fresh sounds to a local audience.

Featuring:

Joe Kaptein - piano
Roger Manins - tenor saxophone
Michael Gianan - guitar
Wil Goodinson - electric bass
Elijah Whyte - drums and cymbals
Ron Samsom - percussion

Ben Gailer

Ben Gailer is a pianist and composer/arranger currently studying an Honours degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Auckland. In the first public performance of his 16-piece ensemble, the Ben Gailer Jazz Orchestra, he will premiere some of his original compositions and arrangements which are the culmination of his last year of study and work.

Expect to hear an exciting night of original jazz compositions, reimaginings of classic jazz standards, and arrangements of tunes by other New Zealand composers.
