The Rochelle Spence Dance Studio will present ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ as the main part of their annual dance recital on Saturday 4th April at the Napier Municipal Theatre with performances at 2pm and 7pm.

The students will provide a colourful dance drama based on the popular book and movie. The senior students will take on the roles of Charlie, Grandpa Joe, Violet, Veruca, Augustus, Mike Teevee, parents and grandparents, newsreaders and lead Oompa Loompas while the younger students will perform in large colourful groups of Golden Tickets, Candies, Lollipops, Blueberries, Fizzy Pop, Squirrels, Young Oompa Loompas, Cowgirls and Paparazzi. The role of Willy Wonka will be played by local actor and film maker Will Couper.

The audience will follow Charlie on his adventures in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. The dancers will perform to a diverse selection of music and the stage will be set with scenery constructed by local contemporary artist, Ken Sando. There will be 180 performers on stage ranging in age from 3years to 18years.

During the first half of the performance students and will perform short items in classical ballet, contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre and jazz dance styles.

This will be an entertaining show to be enjoyed by all ages.
