The Canterbury Film Society's 2020 programme now in full swing after a two-month 'COVID-19 holiday'. For the month of June only, screenings will be at the Isaac Theatre Royal (ITR) in Gloucester Street. Doors open at 7pm and screenings start at 7.30pm with a short introduction. There is easy parking in the central city at this time with free street parking after 6pm and a Wilson's carpark over the road from the theatre. There are also a number of bars and restaurants in Gloucester and New Regent Streets for those who want a pre-dinner meal or snack.

CERTAIN WOMEN is the result of director Kelly Reichardt's artful merging of her two obsessions: the mid-western American landscape (in this film, Livingston, Montana) and women’s psychology, by reworking and intertwining three short stories. "Reichardt has an uncanny gift for drawing forceful, yet intimate performances from actors (and especially actresses).” — Bérénice Reynaud, Senses of Cinema.

Adam Cook, Vancouver International Film Festival says: “This great writer-director is responsible for some of the best American films of the last decade…and CERTAIN WOMEN may be her most beautiful work of art yet. It script is adapted from three short stories by Montana author Maile Meloy. It's a film so quiet and understated, that the emotional wallop it packs may seem unlikely at first glance. With an incredible cast that features Laura Dern, Michelle Williams and Kristen Stewart, it’s hardly the film you’d expect would attract Hollywood talent of that pedigree. But they’re in it for Reichardt’s vision, and what a delicate and poetic vision it is, of the everyday lives of normal women navigating the everyday. Master cinematographer Christopher Blauvelt creates some of the most memorable and painterly images you’re likely to see in a film this year.”

Tonight is a members-only event but we have membership prices to suit everyone, including generous discounts for students and youth. New memberships must be paid online beforehand OR by phone banking app on the night (we'll have no Eftpos available throughout June).

Food and drink will be available from the ITR downstairs bar. Please note: NO outside food or drink may be brought into this venue.

Contact tracing will continue to be done by theatre staff inside the entrance (MOH Covid-19 QR reader or written list).
