The acclaimed Los Angeles based artist's first solo show in the Southern Hemisphere.
Debuting at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery / Len Lye Centre, it will later travel to Guangdong Times Museum in China and Spike Island, in the UK.
Through her art practice, Lin explores lesser-known histories of Chinese migration that have echoes in New Zealand and uncanny relevance today. In particular, stories of borders and segregation; racial profiling and conspiracy theories; bodies and remedies; viruses and war give unsettling historical context for current conditions.
The current exhibition suite also includes:
Sorawit Songsataya: Rumours (Mermaid) - A brand new work from one of Govett-Brewster's Digital Artists 'In Residence' of 2020, on view 24 hours a day in the Gallery's street-front Open Window Gallery.
Len Lye: The Absolute Truth of the Happiness Acid - a celebration of the artist's acclaimed, colourful, experimental film-making practice, using new methods to present Lye's films in the gallery environment.
Len Lye: Sky Snakes - never seen before, Len Lye's 'Sky Snake' in installation of seven swirling Sky Snakes.
