Travel to Brazil on the wings of song, from the comfort of Wellington's vibrant welcoming Latin locale of music, wine and tapas, El Barrio.

As you descend into Rio de Janeiro with its endless sun, sand and sea, you are welcomed by the embrace of Christ the Redeemer high above Guanabara. Immerse yourself in the rhythms of the Portuguese poetry, like the lilting waves on Ipanema and the shimmying hips of samba dancers.

Ruth Armishaw, accompanying herself with ease on the piano, is a vocal chameleon, equally adept in styles from jazz to musical theatre, opera to oratorio. Discovering Jazz as a teenager, Ruth went on to gain Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Vocal Jazz Performance from the New Zealand School of Music. Bossa Nova became a focus in her final year when she arranged and performed a concert of Brazilian music with an 11-piece band.

Connecting with the Wellington Latino community in the years since has kept this love alive and given it deeper meaning.
