Big Band Jazz Picnic

Our annual Jazz Picnic featuring the Basin City Big Band is a much loved afternoon of live music set in idyllic grounds overlooking sea views at this special venue in Waipu. Bring your own eats and drinks, and a rug or chair for comfort.

The easy slopes create a natural grassy amphitheatre. Dancing barefoot in the "aisles" is welcome! Perhaps bring a brolly for shade if you're not situated under the trees... Pack up the whole family and enjoy top notch singers and jazz instrumentalists backed by the 20-piece big band from Whangarei, directed by Derek Hopper.

Basin City Big Band will regale you with jazz standards and classic hits from Frank Sinatra to Ella Fitzgerald, to Michael Buble and more, plus a few movie themes you'll recognise. Bring your friends for a great toe tapping afternoon - even if you never leave your seat because your picnic basket is so wonderful. This is a wonderful afternoon to remember, with great music in a beautiful natural setting.
