Hi folks, my name is Kali I am an author, performing artist, Kiwi, member of MBN and proud Bi/Pan human. I am passionate about storytelling it has fascinated me throughout my career. I also grew up in Auckland in a time when Bisexuals where unceremoniously excluded from the queer community. It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s and living in Melbourne. That I discovered Melbourne Bisexual Network that there where people like me, people who had had similar experiences to me. It was also a time when active campaigning had made bisexuality more socially acceptable. For the first time in my life, I had role models, humans who exist unapologetically in both straight and queer spaces.

Through MBN and their work with mental health, I have become excited about the positive impact of visibility. Storytelling can be a powerful force of visibility. It can also be an intensely private exploration of your own experience. Either way exploring the bi+ experience through art and storytelling can be a healing and freeing experience.

I have adapted the concept of this event from a writing workshop, to be a series of tips and prompts to help inspire you to have a go at telling your own stories in whatever medium that takes your fancy.

Every day I will post a storytelling prompt and link a few examples of awesome Bi+ content. You can then have a go at your own creative process or even share other examples of stories that have inspired you. It may be that the act of creating your own story is healing in its own right but I do encourage you to share your creations with the hashtag #standbius. They do not need to be perfect, or even finished (I will have a go at sharing some of my own explorations). Like most of life nothing is ever really finished but saturating social media with bi+ art and stories during the Stand Bi Us Conference is a lovely way for us to feel connected to our community in this time when many of us need to be apart.
