After a break for Covid Levels 3 and 4 the Canterbury Film Society is opening its doors again on Monday 8 June at the Isaac Theatre Royal (ITR) in Gloucester Street. This will be our temporary home for June only. Doors open at 7.15pm for a 7.45pm start. (Next week, we'll be back to normal with a 7.30pm start.)

"And Life Goes On" (a cool title for our first night back) is a gorgeous film made by Abbas Kiarostami, one of Iran's stellar directors and a darling of Iran's New Wave movement. Abbas Kiarostami first came to international attention with his 1987 feature film Where Is the Friend’s Home? which became the first of his ‘Koker Trilogy’. In the aftermath of the 1990 earthquake in northern Iran, Kiarostami returned to the rural village of Koker to make two further films: And Life Goes On… and Through The Olive Trees. Later in the month Jafar Panahi's Tehran Taxi is a more recent gem which won the Golden Bear at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival. Described as ‘witty guerrilla filmmaking’, this is one of his looser, more playful pieces since his 2010 arrest and government-imposed filmmaking ban. View the trailer via the Society website.

This is a members-only event but we have membership prices to suit everyone, including generous discounts for students and youth. New memberships must be paid online beforehand OR by phone banking app on the night (we'll have no Eftpos available throughout June).

Food and drink will be available from the ITR downstairs bar. Please note: NO outside food or drink may be brought into this venue.

Contact tracing will be done inside the entrance (MOH Covid QR reader or written list).
