Join us at CAN for a personal appearance by well known and respected NZ artist Peter Madden.

Peter will discuss the making of his work currently on display, and is happy to answer any questions that you may have about his practice. He will also discuss some other works in the current exhibition ‘Stronger at the Broken Places’, engaging with members of the audience in a conversation about the themes and conventions of the work.

Peter Madden’s installations and collages are assembled from images cut from encyclopedias, advertisements and National Geographic magazines. His works are fantastical, poetic and the complex layering of imagery invites metaphorical associations.

The Auckland-based has said of his approach : “I consider myself a ‘Sculptographer’; a ‘post-conceptual photographer’. A mediator between genres & dimensions, between you, the other and I. I suppose I am an altogether different collagist, maybe a collagist of difference.”

Madden graduated MFA from the University of Auckland, School of Fine Arts in 2002 and his work is represented in the collections of the Auckland Art Gallery and Queensland Art Gallery amongst others.
