The Botanical Art Society of New Zealand Inc are holding their annual exhibition in Auckland for the first time. Established in 2004, in Christchurch, the Society has now grown to encompass artists from all over New Zealand and beyond, with previous exhibitions being held in Christchurch.
Twenty-five artists have produced over 75+ small artworks, showcasing a wide range of New Zealand natives as well as exotic plants.
Traditionally botanical artists used watercolour but this exhibition also shows artists working in gouache, colour pencil, ink and even scratchboard.
The Society aims to promote public awareness of contemporary botanical art, to highlight native and exotic flora found in NZ and by striving to be as accurate as possible in their portrayal of their subject, educate as well. Dissected and diseased plants are among those portrayed in this niche exhibition.
This free event is open from Saturday 1st August at 8am - 4.30 pm and every day except the last day, Monday 26th October when it closes at 4pm.
