6 Degrees Festival

Victoria University of Wellington’s Master of Fine Art's programme in theatre is proud to celebrate the return of the Six Degrees Festival. In January and February 2020, 11 Masters students will present 8 shows in celebration of their achievements and a years worth of learning in the MFA programme.

With shows at Studio 77 and BATS Theatre, the Festival is made up of both emerging and established artists who are excited to share their talent and work with Wellington. From a solo work about the power of women to a promenade party full of actors; a VR and dance experience to a verbatim piece about the Napier earthquakes, there is sure to be something for everyone!

Sarah

Sarah is a brave examination of how people create meaning and fail to create meaning in life.

Hush
4- 8 February at 6:30pm | Random Stage, BATS Theatre
Set against the backdrop of an upcoming reform bill decriminalising homosexuality, Hush explores the fragile relationship between a mother and a son in 1985 Wellington, New Zealand.

The Party

We’re having a party and you’re invited! Four masters students have curated an immersive interactive theatrical experience for you for three nights only. Come for the party, stay for the party.

Dance Me to The End
11-15 February at 5:30pm | Studio, BATS Theatre
Distraught after the death of her longtime friend and collaborator, a dancer attempts to pick up the pieces of her life. Director Carrie Thiel and her team of talented artists and technicians present ten minutes of VR immersive theatre.

Stupid Bitch Wants a Puppy

This 2020 tune-up of STUPID BITCH is an original multi-media solo theatre piece, written and devised by Claire Waldron. STUPID BITCH wants a puppy looks at the subtleties and nuances in women to whom labels of any kind are given.

Fracture

“Oh gosh, we thought it was the end of the world!” On the 89th year after the 1931 Napier Earthquake, Fracture engages with the experiences of the individuals during the Hawkes Bay Earthquake in a gripping and distinctive way. The past meets stage in this verbatim lead exploration into the experiences of the quake's survivors.

The Extinction Paradox

The Extinction Paradox is now upon us. Can an accidental assembly of acquaintances prove humanity are capable of protecting Earth? In the style of Black Mirror but on stage, spiked with humour and higher, more directly dire stakes than ever, this thrilling adventure dares to ask and explore the difficult question: what do we/should we do now to fix the world?
