How do you steer your readers through the complex landscapes of colonisation? D. Nandi Odhiambo is the 2018 Elliot Cades Award for Literature for an Established Writer. His novels include the latest Smells Like Stars, The Reverend’s Apprentice, Kipligat’s Chance and diss/ed banded nation. Currently, he is Associate Professor of English at the University of Hawai‘i—West O‘ahu.
