Works On Paper by Kathryn Madill and Valerie Hammond

From 29 November through 21 December, RDS Gallery exhibits works on paper by two women artists from different continents. Kathryn Madill is a long-stranding member of the art community of Dunedin. Valerie Hammond, an American living in New York, visited New Zealand in 2004, at which time she showed her work at Mary McFarlane's Port Gallery, which also in that period represented Kathryn Madill.

The current exhibition then follows on from a conversation that began fifteen years ago. The prints and paintings on view by these two artists testify to a growing international community of women who, in the words of American artist Kiki Smith describing Valerie Hammond, 'are part of a group of women artists in our time expanding the boundaries of art to include the complexity and wholeness of our experience'.
