Join Hamilton Civic Choir for their winter concert, When We Were Young; Songs of Childhood, which is guaranteed to make you nostalgic for your youth. You'll be tapping your foot to Rutter’s Sing a Song of Six Pence and The Owl and the Pussycat and having flashbacks to your childhood years with Pure Imagination.
“One of the wonderful things about children is how they see the world so fresh, new and magical” says Hamilton Civic Choir Music Director Timothy Carpenter. “Everything is amazing and exciting and needs to be explored. They see the world for its beauty, un-tarnished by minute troubles that 21st century society creates for us. Choral music can capture all the wonder and adventure of a child’s mind through sound. The arrangement of pieces we have chosen challenges the choir to find its inner-child voice and spirit - something everyone should do!”
The concert will feature music ranging from fun music of childhood such as Little Jack Horner by New Zealand composer Phillip Norman and Animal Crackers by Eric Whitacre, to thoughtful music such as Bestor’s Prayer of the Children reminding each of us, whether parent or child, what a special gift life is.
Hamilton Civic Choir is also thrilled to be joined by local children’s choir TronSongsters Children’s Choir bringing to the audience an exuberant programme including numbers such as When I Grow Up from Matilda the Musical and a jazzy interpretation of the famous nursery rhyme “Humpty Dumpty.” Established in 2018, The TronSongsters Children’s Choir gives 8-13-year olds from the Waikato region an inspiring place to develop their vocal, choral and musicianship skills every week under the guidance of experienced teachers.
Bring your family and enjoy a glimpse or two of magic from your childhood!
