Everyone has an opinion on what kind of a city Hamilton is. Whether its positive or negative, it is a topic that rarely fails to elicit a response. Now consider a different question: what kind of a city should Hamilton be in 10, 20, or even 100 years?

Here in Hamilton we have a diverse population and a very young average age. We also have a burgeoning creative sector and are among the most highly educated in New Zealand. We are growing rapidly both in terms of numbers and our national position, profile and connectivity. These periods of growth are crucial times in shaping future urban form, attracting people and businesses, and creating a place that is good to live in, making the most of our collective talents.

We know where we have been, but where we are going is a trickier, more strategic question full of different possibilities. And the decisions we make now will leave a long legacy.

Our panel who will discuss this topic for the forthcoming event 'What could Hamilton look like in the Future?' includes Dr Jeremy Mayall, Wintec academic and Acting Chief Executive of Creative Waikato, Dr Arama Rata, of the National Institute of Demographic and Economic Analysis at the University of Waikato and Professor Iain White, Environmental Planning academic at the University of Waikato.

Members of the public are invited to attend this free event being held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato on Thursday 26 September. Free parking is available on campus via Gate 2B, Knighton Road, Hamilton.

A cash bar will be available from 5.30pm, with doors opening at 5.50pm.
