Rescheduled April soundclash is here!

Yes friends! The freshest vinyl only hip hop event in a 200km radius.

The legendary DLT & veteran Mr Dirty Hairy are back on 2 turntables with an evening of Hip hop related goodness. But this time with the help of UK, B-boy, DJ and the Delboy of records Paul Bucks.

Words from the nut cracker: (a brief history)

The keen Hip Hopper would probably know that on August 11th 1973 in the Bronx/New York at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue a DJ named Kool Herc was credited with inventing one of the most important elements of hip-hop at a back to school party: The break.

The break or the get down part was a section of the song where as James Brown put it the band would: "give the drummer some"

This break was extended by using two copies of the same record on two turntables for the dancers . Kool Herc was the first to curate those breaks together in a cohesive manor.

This (DJ’ing) was one of the founding elements of hip hop alongside breaking (B-boying), along with the feel and visual style (graffiti). Eventually MC’s evolved on the scene from just announcing things on the mic at party’s and hyping up the crowd by shouting out the DJ. DJ first yo!

So August 11th 1973 is now known as hip hops birthday.

“From 73’ til infinity"

Hip hop eventually spilled out onto the rest of the world where almost every country participated, founded and developed their own styles and stars of hip hop and the four elements.

With this date in mind you can discover peoples hip hop generation related to when the rhythm hit em, or they discovered the art form.

We’re excited to have blessing the turntables:
- The teacher, Papa, DLT (1st Generation Aotearoa Hip Hop)
- Veteran record digger Dirty Hairy (2nd Gen UK Hip Hop)
- Paul Buck$ (1st Generation UK Hip Hop/Kane FM)

A leave ya ego at the door evening playing some of the roots of hip hops, breaks and beats.
$5 door and whilst there are no requests if you want to approach any of the DJ’s on the night and ask about a tune they are playing feel free.

Knowledge of Hip Hop means knowledge of records and this trio have some! And if you don't know, now you know.
