Winner of the prestigious Fringe First award at Edinburgh in 2018, Valerie is a musical love letter from grandson to grandmother. This inter-generational, interdisciplinary and interrupting piece of gig-theatre reaches into the guts of family mythologies, while highlighting resilience. It combines music, genetics, and storytelling to unravel one family’s history in a hard-hitting show embraced by love and compassion.

Named the NZ Herald’s stand-out cabaret of the year in 2017, Valerie also scored outstanding original composition at the Wellington Theatre Awards 2018 and most original production at the Auckland Theatre Awards 2016.

Presented by Last Tapes Theatre Company, Valerie is created by Robin Kelly, Cherie Moore, and Tom Broome and is directed by Benjamin Henson.
