Wellington’s iconic concert series returns to fill your summer nights with the sounds of Aotearoa’s best and brightest! Come early to grab a good picnic spot, and as the sun goes down see the gardens transform with a magical light display by MJF Lighting.

It’s a very special Gardens Magic season with Summer City turning 40 and Wellington Botanic Garden turning 150.

To celebrate, opening night is turning the clock back 40 years with a '80s glam performance from ULTRASOUNZ- so get your best '80s outfit on to win fabulous prizes.

From 7pm there’s birthday cake for the first 150 people, and special performances by Tarrant Dancers, to celebrate local dance industry legend Deirdre Tarrant who helped kick it all off 40 years ago.

For updates check the Wellington City Council’s Facebook page. A weather call will be made by 7pm.

Get out and make the most of the summer in one of the world’s most liveable cities… To discover Wellington’s free outdoor events head to wellington.govt.nz/summercity.
