This month’s Turner Centre Jazz Club presents, a truly, internationally experienced line-up of jazz musicians.
Joy Yates, Vocals, has performed with international artists such as Elvin Jones, Clark Terry, Chaka Khan, Van Morrison and Ronnie Scott, to name a few. She has appeared on recordings and television shows overseas with Barbara Streisand, Demis Roussos, Cliff Richard, Cat Stevens and many more, including working for Andrew Lloyd Weber. Joy also recorded and toured with the James Last Orchestra.
Dave MacRae, Piano. Music composer, arranger and producer toured the USA, Britain and Europe with the Buddy Rich Band. Has played piano with Chet Baker, Clarke Terry, Clifford Jordan, Jon Hendricks, and was for eight years the musical director for the ‘Goodies’ television show in Britain. He also produced Scott Walker’s (the Walker Brothers) ‘Nite Flights’ album. Joy and Dave formed the Pacific Eardrum, fusion band in the 1970s.
Alongside Joy and Dave performing for us is the most renowned, world experienced, rhythm section of Frank Gibson and Bruce Lynch.
Frank Gibson, Drums. His CV reads like the “Who’s Who” of jazz playing for many artists such as, John Scofield, Milt Jackson, Frank Foster, Lee Konitz, Sonny Stitt, Joe Henderson and Sam Rivers, Dusty Springfield, Anita O’Day and Diana Krall. He has had a vast career which has taken him many times around the world and he is a musician who has shown his ability to play in any genre. All of this has given Frank a very successful career.
Bruce Lynch, Bass. Bruce has worked with many local and international artists and bands, playing both acoustic and electric basses in NZ and the UK. He has played bass for Rick Wakeman, Cat Stevens, Morrisey, Mullen Band, Space Case, Pacific Eardrum, Nucleus and many others. He is also a noted record producer, recording engineer and composer with many films to his credit.
We believe these musicians to be a part of New Zealand’s Jazz Royalty and a special treat for our Jazz Club.
