BioBlitz is taking place in your backyard and this is your chance to discover more about the flora and fauna of the local environment.
Join staff from Auckland Museum along with research partners and local iwi who are examining changes to local species from 1769 to present day.
Working with local iwi, the aim of the BioBlitz is to record the current flora/fauna/fungi and where possible compare these specimens to what is known from the past.
Connecting 250-year-old museum natural history collections from Cook and Tupaia’s voyage on the Endeavour (545 plant specimens collected in 1769-70 by Banks and Solander housed at Auckland Museum), with modern collections, allows local communities an opportunity to examine how biodiversity and the local environment has changed over time.
Come along to the Tiaki Mauri BioBlitz marquee on Saturday 30 November at Wairoa Bay, Waitangi and see some of the plants, animals and fungi specimens collected, and talk to our experts who will share their discoveries.
