The Bull Lyre of Tauranga is one of the most significant and powerful projects the Incubator has achieved to date.
Working with friends and our extraordinary team to bring a dying man's dream to fruition the Bull Lyre was performed at a sell out Baycourt performance to a standing ovation in 2016.
Master harpist Natalie Mann, travelled from Queensland after composing the music after being acquainted with Te Pūru* via Skpe.
Paired with our own master of indigenous Taonga instruments Puoro Joel Komene, Natalia mastered this replica of a 5000 year old middle eastern instrument built lovingly by John Knotts. A stunning poetry response was delivered by Dhaivat Mehta and a streamed visual collaboration formed a haunting backdrop by Iraqi artist Sundus Abdul Hadi.
This series from her Warchestra series responded to her homeland - The home of the original Bull Lyre of Ur. The process and original performance was documented in an emotional film by Tessa Blackett filmmaker.
Thus we are honoured to be welcoming Natalia back to our Incubator and Tauranga, and thrilled that Te Puru will be brought from his storage space to come to life once again in John's memory in our Jam Factory space.
We know this show will sell out fast to presales are necessary to secure a space in what will be yet another powerful and entertaining experience.
*Affectionately named by the performers Te Pūru ( the bull).
