From Avaiki and across the vast Pacific Ocean, the Ariki led the people of the Pacific to new worlds aboard great ocean canoes. The people of modern day Cook Islands were a part of this great voyage.

Te Maeva Nui NZ 2019 celebrates the leaders, chiefs, Kings and Queens who led their kopu tangata (people) to the lands we call home. Their legendary stories are retold through our most common of mediums, our culture. Using the language of our forefathers, Cook Islanders in New Zealand present the epic tales of their Ariki over two days in October.
