During the last twenty-five years of the Buddha’s life, Ānanda served him as a personal attendant, taking the opportunity to store his teacher’s words in his memory in order to pass them on to future generations. During this time Ānanda and the Buddha also developed a personal friendship.
Just before his parinirvana the Buddha praised his friend, saying,
“Ānanda has four remarkable and wonderful qualities. What are they? If a company of monks comes to see Ānanda, they are pleased at the sight of him, and when Ānanda talks Dhamma to them they are pleased, and when he is silent they are disappointed.”
Everyone welcome.
