Explore design, building and firing a small wood-fired kiln, with a practical, experimental “make-do” approach, with local kiln expert and potter Israel Dawson. You will get hands-on with brick making, turning your own raw clay into a usable product, and basic glazing.
Suitable for those with little or no experience, to experienced potters.
Hopefully each student will take home a piece of their own wood-fired work, however this method is by nature unpredictable, and outcomes may vary.
*There is a possiblity that the community wood kiln will be fired up this week, and if so you will have the opportunity to have some of your own work fired. Details to be advised.
What's included? Clay for brick-making, tuition, firewood.
What do you need to bring? Raw or bisqued pots for firing in the small wood kiln, samples (approx 1kg) of any raw clay you have available, safety gloves that fit closely.
