Toi Warbrick performs augmented 17th C works by Victoria and Purcell, and selected pieces from Antipodeans and KONO - Song Cycle of a New Town, written by Wellington composer Pepe Becker in 2016-2018, including poetry by Apirana Taylor, Leonel Alvarado and Tim Upperton.
Toi Warbrick opens the world of Maori musical instruments to music lovers through innovative and experimental bicultural music calling on history, imagination and emotion. Warren Warbrick is a researcher and maker of ngā taonga pūoro (Māori musical instruments), one of which is in the collection of the National Museum of Scotland, and Virginia is an experienced choral singer.
The Palmerston North based ensemble has performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Adelaide Fringe, New Zealand Fringe, and in Oxford (UK), San Martin de Valdeiglesias (Spain), as well as 20+ regional art galleries and town halls around New Zealand since 2008.
Their most recent work, KONO - Song Cycle of a New Town was recognised with the Palmy Fringe Festival Judges' Choice Award and a Regional Theatre Award for original script and production.
