Northland's Native Forests: Crisis and Opportunities
Dean Baigent-Mercer will present a fascinating talk exploring Northland's native forests, revealing the stunning native wildlife that dwell within them.
He will discuss the urgent issues facing our indigenous forests, including the devastating impacts of introduced pests and climate change, by asking: What is missing? What is now in jeopardy and importantly, what we do to restore and protect these taonga/treasures.
Dean has often invisibly been involved with the key environmental campaigns within Aotearoa New Zealand over the past twenty years. Sometimes writer/researcher, sometimes activist, sometimes pest-controller or mead-maker, he has worked internationally with Greenpeace and nationally with Forest & Bird and other ENGOs. Since 2015 Dean has publicly championed the cause of Northland's collapsing native forests.
